PowerToys for Windows XP "Say what you will about the company from Redmond and its controversial OSes, but it's hard to argue with the small, ultra-useful, and unsupported tweaking apps that seem to sneak from the keyboard of some astute programmer. If you're tired of the noise and the dust produced by the fans inside your PC, you may want to consider a liquid-cooled PC case. A company called Calm PC produces these types of cases and here's what they say about them: "The CALM system is a natural heat dissipation system that removes heat from CPU, graphic card and Power supply by heat flow without fans. It is a no-noise, no-power, trouble-free computer cooling system." I haven't tried it, so I don't know if they're telling the truth or not, but it looks interesting. Click here to check it out. Believe it or not, I've been using an old ASTVision 5L 15-inch monitor as my main computer monitor for quite a few years now. It never gave me any trouble, and while I have found it small at times, I got by with it. Well, I think it's finally ready to kick the bucket, so I went shopping for a new monitor. I found a nice 17-inch NEC monitor on sale over at Amazon.com for only $189. And since Amazon is shipping orders over $99 for free, I didn't have to pay the extra $30 it would have taken to ship the thing. Pretty cool. If you're interested, click here to check it out. Both Intel and AMD have new processors on the market. "The Pentium 4 is faster than all currently available Pentium IIIs and its new NetBurst architecture has much more room to grow. What Intel didn't bank on however was their formerly dormant competitor, AMD, having such a solid processor." It's that time again... Tax time. If you don't have an accountant, then you should at least be using computer software, especially when you can get it free... Get this... a programmer in Thailand has created a program that produces sound, which sounds like bad noise to mosquitoes. The bugs can't stand the noise, so it drives them away. I guess it works like those noise producing devices you can buy in the store, but in this case the noise is produced by your PC speakers. You can download the program here. I haven't used it, so try the program at your own risk, but it looked like a cool piece of trivia I thought you might like to hear about. Happy New Year! Geez, 2001 just flew by, didn't it? The birth (or rebirth from Comp-media) of NewTechReview was only a short while ago, but we're growing at an unbelievable rate. This year I have planned many new additions to our beloved publication including daily tips, a discussion area, a links area, and of course more great contests. I think 2002 will be a wonderful year for us NewTechies. I really appreciate your support, and here's to a great new year! I think I've found the ultimate technology gift... the RoboScout Personal Robot. It moves forward, back, right and left. Sensors detect obstacles and stairs. It's adjustable arms hold up to 2 lbs. of drinks and snacks on two included trays. It also includes a remote that provides both video and sound so you can see and hear what the robot is looking at and listening too. You can even talk into remote and the robot speaks in your voice. "PKWARE has extended the industry-standard .ZIP file format, which the company introduced in 1989 to support virtually unlimited archive size. The previous ZIP standard's limitations did not allow power users, such as system and network administrators, to create ZIP archives larger than 4-gigabytes in size or containing more than 65,000 files. My first computer was an Atari 800. Ah, those were the good old days when everything was new to me and I was just beginning to learn all about what made these wonderful machines tick. Of course, my brother got interested in computers as well, but he decided to go with the Amiga. Remember Amiga computers? Even though they're gone, did you know you can emulate them on your PC?
