Yeah, the 896HD has had the full mod from Black Lion (including preamps) and the Pre8 is stock. I feed the Pre8 from my lunchbox and other external preamps.

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

What can I say. Loved the bluegrass tune.

They need a Dobro player

Really they have a full compliment as bluegrass goes!

Your shop and space gets the job done!!! BTW I missed your tune posts!

Love to make that music,as well I love to tweak,Make my own sample sets

Thanks folks!

I'll post some more in a few days.

It's kinda' ironic, I originally conceived this place to record bluegrass exclusively. But I've branched out to many other genres as well.

Screamo metal, praise and worship, R&B, voice overs, audio for film and software, etc. You name, I'll record it!

Sounds like this discussion is moving towards the ad variety.

Well, I AM a commercial facility which uses SONAR. And I'm guessing everyone who comes to Digifreq is also a SONAR user and wouldn't ever really have a need to visit my facility much less come to Texas to do so.

So, an ad? No, I don't think so. Just a guy who is proud of the results he gets in SONAR. And one who can lend some credibility to the thought that SONAR can be used in a professional commercial setting, not just dinking around in a small bedroom somewhere. If you ask me, there aren't enough commercial SONAR users hanging around forums. Just my 2¢.

If I've violated the TOS or stepped on anyone's toes, Scott feel free to delete this thread.

Sincerely,
Earl

Hi Earl,

No, there's no problem with this topic. If there was, I would have said something about it.

I am the one and only authority here (with some moderating help from Jim and Larry -- thanks guys!)...

...so feel free to ignore Otto. He has absolutely no say in what happens here.

Best,
Scott

Branching out helps when it's time to pay bills!! I've always highly recommended it

You don't have to like it. Just give it your best. The musicians will know what tone they want. Even if it's a bad call overall. That's where producers and mastering engineers come into the mix.

Earl-

Mind if I ask who (you? contractor? both?) did your studio design? Who (you? contractor? both?) did the build, how long did it take, and what did it cost, roughly? (You can be vague - I'm not asking for major specifics.) What kind of area is it located in? How did you choose the area? How are you advertising? Are you getting rich, or dodging phone calls? :))

I think a LOT of people here are very interested in at least considering that leap and would love hearing from a guy that makes a living at it. Every aspect of it. I also think Cakewalk is ALWAYS interested in hearing from commercial studios using their products.

Nothing like hearing from a guy that's actually had real experience (right firefox?) I'm just throwing in my $0.02 an no, I'm certainly not trying to bash otto. I DO like to see what everyone has to say, even if I don't agree. Maybe, especially if I don't agree...

Rest assured, if things aren't presented in the right vein, it will be taken care of. This forum's survived a lot for a long time. Everyone here has a pretty high tolerance for freedom of speech, though. I already know what's inside my realm of experience - but I can certainly learn from what others have done, too. Good and bad.

I'm involved with a few commercial and semi-commercial ventures. I try very hard not to sell anything here. I don't date people at work, I don't poop in my own bed, and I don't sell things here. Well, except maybe my opinions. :D People have been paying me exactly what those are worth! Seriously, that's just not in the spirit of this forum, IMO.

I think you have a nice studio. So, Tell us more...

-Jim

I think it's possible to see more people making money using Sonar with the growing popularity of Reaper, as Reaper seems to be "converting" some pro's with smaller studio's away from PT. IMO Reaper doesn't do much above or beyond Sonar's capabilities.

BTW Earl, I have the BLA TweakHead mod on my 1814FW and love their work. Cost me only $500 for the mod when I would have had to spend at least $850 on an RME interface to get the same quality and I/O options.

With all the lava lamps you've got there I figured bluegrass wasn't the only thing you were up to. Nice collection you've got going, LOL. It's fantastic you've gotten more clientele into your shop there.

What do you have in your lunchbox? And do you feel it's worth the investment in a box and PSU to get one started?

Also, do you have any EQ modules, Comps, or Channel Strips in your lunchbox that you feel are invaluable?

Always fly high
