U-Key-Com FIDA USB 2.0 Flash Drive with Fingerprint ID Authentication

"Think Computer Products announced the launch of the U-Key-Com FIDA Drive, a USB 2.0 portable flash storage device that incorporates a fingerprint sensor for access to the secure storage partition. The FIDA drive has several distinct features that set it apart from the competition.

The drives range in capacity from 64Mb to 2Gb, while a 4Gb is planned for release in Q1 2004. The unit is initialized by an administrator, and supports up to 16 separate fingerprints, providing access for multiple users at the discretion of the administrator. The drive features two partitions; one is public and can be read from any system with a USB port, while the other sector is secure, requiring fingerprint authentication to access the data.

The administrator can adjust the capacity of the public and secure sectors based on preference; the administrator may opt to reduce the secure sector from 50% to 20% for example. To further secure the data, the drive uses AES based encryption ("Rjandel") providing encryption/decryption "on-the-fly." The user can optionally choose a password of up to 35 characters for added protection." Click here for more information.

Gamepod by Loftgoods

"Gamepod integrates high quality audio and tactile sound and embeds the technology in a high-style, comfortable, upholstered chair that turns heads with its good looks, and for the way it totally changes the video game and movie-watching experience.

"There is a huge gap in the interactive furniture category," said Paul Wong, CEO of Loftgoods, manufacturer of the Gamepod. "The product at the low end is chiefly plastic and uncomfortable, and home theater seating retails for well over $1,000, and is so largely scaled that few homes can accommodate it. Gamepod is the first gaming furniture that is designed to deliver true comfort, high style and unbelievable technology."

"Driving the Gamepod is a 300-watt amplifier, two coaxial speakers and a tactile transducer embedded in the frame. Built by Clark Synthesis, supplier to the leading theme parks and armed forces flight simulators, Gamepod's transducer delivers a tactile experience unmatched by other products. "[Clark's] tagline is 'full contact audio'," said Wong. "It fits."

Loftgoods has given Gamepod plug-and-play simplicity. The chair works with all major gaming and home theater systems, Macs, PCs, Gameboys, DVDs and VCRs. Users can control audio volume and balance the tactile and audio sound - more sound, less shake, and vice versa. The chairs are easily daisy chained so homes with multiple players can keep everyone happy." Click here for more information.

Intuit's TurboTax for 2003

"It's almost time for our annual reckoning with Uncle Sam, and tens of millions of taxpayers are faced with the same problems: taxes are complicated and mistakes can be costly. Intuit's TurboTax, the top-selling tax preparation software of all time, launched for tax year 2003, makes taxes simple and gives you confidence your taxes are done right. Only TurboTax for 2003 delivers a five-part accuracy system. Whether you're a long-time customer or new to TurboTax, you can be confident that your taxes are complete and calculations are guaranteed 100% accurate. The five parts of the system work together to build confidence step-by-step so that when you're finished, you're assured that your taxes are done right.

TurboTax for 2003 starts with the most complete and thorough interview available in tax software today. That means you won't be forced to read tax forms or complicated instructions or do calculations by hand, drastically reducing any chance for error or omission. Compare TurboTax to other tax software products. Many send users to complicated and hard-to-understand IRS forms and publications, sometimes requiring them to do complex calculations themselves.

TurboTax is easier to use than ever before -- the result of improved and simplified language that's new this year. Throughout the Interview, especially in the most common areas such as income and deductions, TurboTax translates tax jargon into simple, everyday English so you can answer questions with confidence. TurboTax guarantees the accuracy of its calculations because it's created by hundreds of experienced and knowledgeable tax experts." Click here for more information.

"You can hardly get a decent MP3 player for $99, and the ZVUE! plays MP3s and video and will soon have an MP4 upgrade," said Garrett Cecchini, executive vice president and co-founder of HandHeld Entertainment. "When was the last time a new technology made a debut and it wasn't overpriced just because it was new? Just about never. The ZVUE! is more than the hottest new personal video player player this year -- it's an affordable one -- and one that will play the most popular video formats too." NEC Interchannel Ships Culdcept for PlayStation 2

"NEC Interchannel, Ltd., a subsidiary of NEC Corporation, announced that it has shipped the first US version of the highly addictive strategy game, Culdcept, for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system. Culdcept combines the best elements of a fantasy card battling game with a tabletop tactical board game, to create a unique gaming experience that has already captivated a legion of followers in Japan.

In Culdcept, each player has a customizable deck of 50 cards that come from a total in-game deck of 480. Up to four players (human or computer-driven) maneuver around the map, taking control of unclaimed land in an effort to build their power. Players defend their land by placing creatures from their card hand on the individual terrains. Battles ensue when opposing players land on occupied space and don’t wish to pay the toll.

Culdcept features art from a cadre of well-known Japanese fantasy artists such as Kastsuya Terada (Blood: The Last Vampire), and music from Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage) and Kenji Ito (Romancing SaGa)." Click here for more information.
