Introducing SimpliCam -- SimpliSafe's $99 Smart Security CameraSimpliSafe, one of the nation's largest security companies, this month launched its new SimpliCam® security camera, created by the same engineers behind its category-disrupting home security system. The camera can be used on its own or alongside the SimpliSafe® security system. In addition to offering 24/7 HD video streaming and motion-triggered alerts, SimpliCam includes security-focused features like advanced privacy settings and visual verification alarm response.

SimpliCam's privacy settings have been woven into the fabric of the user experience, given increasing consumer concerns about privacy in the emerging era of "connected" devices. SimpliCam was built with a stainless steel privacy shutter that closes over the camera lens when users come home and opens when they leave. In addition, the mobile app provides manual control of the shutter, so users are always in the driver's seat when it comes to their privacy needs.

"As a security company, we understand that privacy in the home is sacred. We built our cameras to respect that," said Chad Laurans, SimpliSafe's founder and chief engineer.

Users that pair a SimpliCam with a SimpliSafe alarm system will enjoy a new and unique security feature: visual verification. Users can authorize SimpliSafe's professional alarm center to view footage of alarms in progress and provide visual verification to the police, giving law enforcement a live description of a burglary in progress. This could arm the police with detailed information like where in the house the intruders are, what articles they've taken out of the home, and even from which door they may be fleeing. Visual verification could also lead to even faster police response times and increase the odds of burglars getting caught. Users can also capture HD footage of an intruder's face to download and share.

SimpliCam also brings a security-first mindset to the alerts that customers receive on their smartphones. For instance, the camera will only notify you when there is something important to see. SimpliCam is calibrated to distinguish between human movement and branches swaying outside a window. The camera is even smarter when paired with SimpliSafe's security system, because it can then capture footage connected to all the events detected by the rest of the system's sensors.

SimpliCam gives users access to a 24/7 HD live stream of their home via a smartphone. While many HD streaming cameras are WiFi-hungry, SimpliCam's bitrate compression algorithm delivers a crystal clear picture without slowing down your home's internet. This is particularly important for a security camera, as users may want to place multiple cameras throughout their home.

"SimpliCam is a powerful and smart security camera. And true to our roots, we're offering it at a revolutionary price," said Melina Engel, SimpliSafe's head of marketing.
