Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool debuts on Digital and DVD April 24 from Sony PicturesThe romance that sparked between a young actor and 1950’s era Hollywood leading lady Gloria Graham is the basis for the romantic drama FILM STARS DON’T DIE IN LIVERPOOL, debuting on digital and DVD April 24 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Directed by Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin) and based on a true story by Peter Turner with a screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh, the film stars four-time Academy Award® nominee Annette Bening (Best Supporting Actress, The Grifters, 1990; Best Actress: American Beauty 1999, Being Julia 2004, The Kids Are All Right 2010) and Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot). The film also stars two-time Academy Award nominee Julie Walters (Best Actress, Educating Rita, 1983; Best Supporting Actress, Billy Elliot, 2000) and Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave (Best Supporting Actress, Julia, 1977).

Critically-acclaimed worldwide and certified “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, FILM STARS DON’T DIE IN LIVERPOOL received three BAFTA Film Award nominations, including Best Leading Actress (Annette Bening), Best Leading Actor (Jamie Bell) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Matt Greenhalgh), in addition to its four British Independent Film Award nominations, including Best Actor (Jamie Bell) and Best Supporting Actress (Julie Walters). The San Francisco Film Critics Circle and London Critics Circle Film Awards each nominated Annette Bening’s performance, with her winning Best Actress at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards.

The DVD release of FILM STARS DON’T DIE IN LIVERPOOL includes the music video for “You Shouldn’t Look At Me That Way” by Elvis Costello, as well as film commentary with Paul McGuigan, Barbara Broccoli and Peter Turner, and four featurettes. Fans can join a world-renowned musician for an intimate performance and introspective conversation about crafting the song to accompany this moving story in “Elvis Costello Performance & Conversation” and go behind-the-scenes as he films the music video in “Making of The Music Video: ‘You Shouldn't Look At Me That Way.’” Annette Bening reflects on the life of Gloria Grahame and her embodiment of this complex screen legend in “Annette Bening on Gloria Grahame.” Finally, fans can join the film’s stars, director and author for a lively and candid Q&A panel, as they discuss the process of bringing this story to the screen in “In Conversation with Annette Bening, Jamie Bell, Paul McGuigan and Peter Turner.”

Synopsis:
Based on Peter Turner’s memoir, the film follows the playful but passionate relationship between Turner (Bell) and the eccentric Academy Award®-winning actress Gloria Grahame (Bening) in 1978 Liverpool. What starts as a vibrant affair between a legendary femme fatale and her young lover quickly grows into a deeper relationship, with Turner being the person Gloria turns to for comfort. Their passion and lust for life is tested to the limits by events beyond their control.

Based on the book by Peter Turner, FILM STARS DON’T DIE IN LIVERPOOL was directed by Paul McGuigan with a screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh. The film was produced by Barbara Broccoli and Colin Vaines and executive produced by Stuart Ford, Zygi Kamasa, Paul McGuigan and Michael G. Wilson.
