The Corinth Films Historical Drama Collection arrives on DVD and Digital Jan. 11This January 11th, Corinth brings together five award-winning international period dramas -- all inspired by actual events -- in one specially-priced DVD set.

SYNOPSIS

European history has played a long and storied part in world cinema. The CORINTH FILMS HISTORICAL DRAMA COLLECTION brings together the distributor’s five most acclaimed period dramas based on true stories from Germany, Poland, Russia/Siberia, Latvia, France and the Sudetenland: WITHIN THE WHIRLWIND, CALM AT SEA, THE CHRONICLES OF MELANIE, REMEMBRANCE and HABERMANN.

WITHIN THE WHIRLWIND (2009, 100 minutes, Germany/Poland/Belgium) starring Oscar® and Emmy® Award nominee Emily Watson (“Chernobyl”, Little Women, Breaking the Waves) and directed by Oscar® winner Marleen Gorris (Antonia’s Line) is the story of Eugenia Ginzburg, a Russian literature professor who survived 10 years in a gulag after being swept up in Stalin’s purges and lived to tell about it.

The compelling CALM AT SEA (2011, 96 minutes, France), from acclaimed filmmaker Volker Schlöndorff, immortalizes the young French militant Guy Môquet, who defied the Nazis in occupied France. Based on the book “Suddenly a Criminal: 16 Years In Siberia,” THE CHRONICLES OF MELANIE (2016, 120 minutes, Latvia) tells the story of Melanija Vanaga’s sudden separation from her husband and exile to Siberia for 16 years at the hands of Communist revolutionary forces Inspired by actual events, REMEMBRANCE (2010, 105 minutes, Germany/Poland) is a love story that starts in a concentration camp and perseveres into a bitter-sweet reunion in the 1970’s, and HABERMANN (2010, 104 minutes, Germany/Czech Republic) tells the tale of August Habermann, a business owner in the German Sudetenland who tries to protect his workers from the invading Nazis and is ultimately set up and betrayed.
