| New Photography Books by Renowned Author and Photographer Michael Freeman from Focal Press | ||||||
“Digital Image Editing & Special Effects” is a tactical guide that walks readers through the basics of image processing to the powerful capabilities of today’s photo-editing software; “Black & White Photography Field Guide” is Freeman’s latest addition to Focal Press’ Field Guide series. Both new books are currently available for pre-order and will be on shelves at major book stores by May 15. “Both of these titles are intended to help beginner photographers take their photography to another level,” said Freeman. “Simple edits can make a good photograph great, and different effects – like black and white photography – can completely change the mood of an image. These books will help novice shooters develop their artistic vision, shoot with purpose and explore the potential of today’s digital darkroom.” In “Digital Image Editing & Special Effects,” Freeman demonstrates how to carry out imaging edits from color and lens distortion corrections, to portrait touch-ups and adding drama to a clouded sky. The book offers a section dedicated to photo editing tools, as well as a log of special effects like solarization and retro processes. It is illustrated with Freeman’s photos, which serve as examples in the step-by-step post production exercises. Freeman’s “Black & White Photography Field Guide” addresses one of photography's most popular and challenging areas, offering advice on lighting, shooting, conversion and post-production. The title also explores the tradition of black and white imagery, exercising creative choices, and the use of digital monochrome. This title is the latest in a large series of Focal Press Field Guides, which offer expertise on an array of topics via pocket-size books that fit easily into a camera bag. This is Freeman’s fifth contribution to the series. Freeman is a long-standing Smithsonian magazine photojournalist and the author of more than 40 books.
