The Wedding Plan on DVD and Digital HD from Lionsgate"The Wedding Plan is a poignant and funny romantic comedy about love, marriage, and faith in life’s infinite possibilities. Michal, blindsided by her fiancé’s decision to call off their wedding with only a month’s notice, is unwilling to return to single life. Michal decides to put her trust in fate and continue with her wedding plans, believing Mr. Right will appear by her chosen date. As the day of the ceremony grows closer and no suitor appears, Michal puts everything on the line to find happiness." That is the official description for The Wedding Plan, now available on DVD and Digital HD from Lionsgate, which has provided NewTechReview with a NFR copy for review.

Set in the Orthodox-Jewish community, The Wedding Plan is a foreign-language film featuring Hebrew dialogue with English subtitles that, although billed as a romantic comedy, is really something a bit different. While there are some funny moments, the film is more drama than comedy with Michal's failed love-life being the focus. Over the course of 10+ years she's dated 143 men, all of whom have failed to meet her expectations of being Mr. Right.

When her fiancé dumps her, instead of throwing in the towel, she goes all in by renting a hall, getting a dress and setting a wedding date on the 8th night of Hannukah in hopes that by some miracle she'll have a groom by then. The movie can move a bit slowly at times, but Noa Kole provides a wonderful performance that helps move the slow moments along till you get to the last 15 minutes, which makes the film worth watching.

Since The Wedding Plan is a DVD release, there's not much to say about the technical aspects, but video production and costume design present an excellent atmosphere to the film with the audio providing clean and clear dialogue throughout all the scenes. In addition, there is one bonus feature provided, which is a Photo Gallery of some film stills, etc.

While The Wedding Plan may not be everyone's ideal date movie, it provides an interesting look at the modern-day Orthodox-Jewish community and a charming story about love, marriage, and how far some people may go to find both.
